China News Service, July 10th – The Ministry of Commerce held a regular press conference on the 10th. During the conference, a reporter asked: Reports indicate that critical minerals such as antimony and gallium are being transported to the United States through transshipment. Has the Chinese government taken any measures to crack down on the transshipment and smuggling of these critical minerals?

He Yongqian, the Ministry of Commerce spokesperson, responded by stating that strategic minerals like antimony and gallium possess clear dual-use (civilian and military) attributes, and implementing export controls on them aligns with international common practices. To resolutely prevent illegal outflows, in May of this year, the Office of the National Export Control Coordination Mechanism of China deployed a special operation to combat the smuggling and export of strategic minerals. Relevant information can be found on the ministry’s website.

He Yongqian emphasized that as a responsible major country, China also fully considers the legitimate civilian needs of various nations for these strategic minerals. It reviews related export license applications in accordance with laws and regulations and approves compliant applications.
