Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia | October 27, 2025 – MISC Berhad (MISC), together with consortium partners Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK), Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (K LINE) and China LNG Shipping (Holdings) Limited (CLNG), has celebrated the naming of two new-generation liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers – Mihzem and Idd Al Shargi, marking another milestone in the QatarEnergy LNG expansion programme.
The naming ceremony, held on 17 October 2025, signifies the fifth and sixth LNG carriers to join the 12-vessel fleet operated under the consortium. Importantly, Mihzem and Idd Al Shargi are the first two vessels to be managed directly by MISC’s Marine Services arm, underscoring the company’s operational capability in managing complex, large-scale LNG assets with the highest standards of safety, quality, and reliability.
Constructed by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., the vessels highlight MISC’s continued commitment to its delivering Progress strategy — a roadmap focused on providing more energy with fewer emissions. Under the strategy’s “Resilient Core” pillar, the addition of these eco-efficient LNG carriers strengthens MISC’s fleet modernisation efforts while supporting its long-term sustainability objectives.

The names Mihzem and Idd Al Shargi draw inspiration from landmark locations in Qatar’s energy history, symbolising the nation’s enduring journey from early hydrocarbon discoveries to forward-looking partnerships that drive the global energy transition.
Both vessels are equipped with advanced, energy-efficient propulsion and environmental systems that meet the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) most stringent standards, positioning them among the most sustainable LNG carriers currently in operation.
The naming ceremony was graced by Dr.
Ira Seriwati Abdul Rahman, who served as Lady Sponsor for both vessels, and attended by representatives from QatarEnergy, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard, classification societies ABS and CCS, as well as senior executives from MISC and its consortium partners.
