Modec firms up its first FPSO deal in Guyana Modec

Japanese floater expert Modec is pressing ahead with the engineering, procurement, and construction of a floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) at ExxonMobil’s Uaru development project in the Stabroek block offshore Guyana.

The move into the next phase of the floater project follows a $12.7bn investment decision ExxonMobil and its block partners took on their fifth and most expensive offshore oil project in Guyana at the end of April. Under the contract, Modec will also provide operations and maintenance services for the FPSO for 10 years from its first oil production.

Offshore Frontier Solution, a Modec company and joint venture with Toyo Engineering Corporation, launched in August 2022, will be responsible for the EPC of the FPSO based on Modec’s M350 newbuild hull. The FPSO will have a topside designed to produce approximately 250,000 bopd and an associated gas treatment capacity of 540m cfpd, water injection capacity of 350,000 bpd and produced water capacity of 300,000 bpd.

The FPSO will be the fifth ExxonMobil unit in Guyana. It will be installed at a water depth of about 2000 m using a Sofec spread mooring system and can store around 2m barrels of crude oil. The unit will also be Modec’s first for use in Guyana and the company’s 18th /FSO vessel delivered for use in South America.
