Le Havre, France | October 6, 2025 – Molgas Energy Group has achieved a significant new milestone with the successful completion of its first bioLNG bunkering operation at the Port of Le Havre, supplying cleaner marine fuel to United European Car Carriers (UECC). This operation marks Molgas’s official entry into France’s premier container port and further cements its role as a leading player in the European transition toward low-emission maritime transport.
With the successful execution of this operation, Molgas has been granted a long-term permit to conduct ongoing bunkering activities in Le Havre, enabling consistent supply of LNG and bioLNG to the port’s growing roster of eco-conscious shipping operators.
“Le Havre is not just a strategic addition to our network — it’s a gateway to Northern Europe and a vital node in the clean maritime fuel supply chain,” shared Molgas Energy Group. “This operation exemplifies our commitment to enabling sustainable shipping through safe, scalable, and reliable fuel solutions.”
As France’s number one container port and second largest by total volume, Le Havre plays a critical role in national and European logistics. Its inclusion in Molgas Energy’s clean fuel network represents a major step forward in supporting the decarbonisation of maritime transport across one of Europe’s busiest shipping corridors.
The bunkering operation was completed in close collaboration with UECC, a pioneer in the adoption of alternative marine fuels. UECC’s dual-fuel vessels are central to its “Sail for Change” programme — a company-wide initiative aimed at achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.
United European Car Carriers (UECC), a leader in sustainable shortsea RoRo transport, achieved a massive reduction in well-to-wake CO₂ emissions in 2024, driven primarily by bunkering high-impact liquefied biomethane (LBM) on its LNG-fueled vessels under the “Sail for Change” initiative, supported by major European vehicle manufacturers.
The company’s most recent environmental data shows emissions fell by over 107,000 tons of CO₂ in 2024 — a dramatic 70% improvement over the 63,000-ton reduction reported in 2023.
UECC is targeting an additional 50% cut in emissions in 2025, aiming for a reduction of nearly 155,000 tons as it works toward its 2030 goal of 187,000 tons. As Europe’s leading sustainable shortsea RoRo carrier, the company is rapidly scaling up its use of alternative fuels across its modern, eco-friendly fleet to lower emissions and reduce regulatory costs for its customers.
This expansion into Le Havre builds on Molgas Energy’s growing momentum across Europe, following recent operations in Spain, Portugal, and Italy. The company’s expanding presence at key ports reflects a deliberate strategy to create a robust and interconnected network of LNG and bioLNG supply hubs — supporting customers in meeting EU climate regulations and carbon intensity targets under the FuelEU Maritime framework and ETS extension.
“This achievement would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of our teams, the port authorities, agents, and dockworkers. Their professionalism and coordination were essential to the operation’s success,” said the company.
As a leader in downstream LNG and bioLNG supply, Molgas Energy Group is accelerating the availability of renewable, low-emission fuels for the maritime sector.
The company’s strategic entry into Le Havre underscores its commitment to providing scalable, compliant, and future-ready solutions for shipowners navigating the industry’s decarbonisation trajectory.
With France increasingly investing in clean port infrastructure and sustainable logistics, Molgas’s arrival in Le Havre positions the company to play a key role in shaping the future of maritime energy in Western Europe.
UECC is Europe’s leading provider of sustainable shortsea RoRo transportation services, operating a modern fleet of Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs) across a comprehensive pan-European network. The company is committed to net-zero emissions by 2040 through the adoption of low-carbon fuels and hybrid technologies.
