The Canadian Coast Guard has confirmed the successful refloating of the cargo vessel Thamesborg on October 9, 33-days after it grounded in the Franklin Strait near Prince of Wales Island, Canada. The operation, supported by T&T Salvage, MSV Botnica, and the Canadian Coast Guard, involved offloading 5,000 tons of carbon blocks and managing damaged ballast tanks. The vessel was refloated without damage or pollution, and its crew of 15 plus an ice advisor remain safe and onboard. The Thamesborg is now en route to Baie Comeau, Quebec, with arrival expected on October 24, navigating Arctic conditions with its ice-class hull. The Canadian Coast Guard acknowledges the cooperation and collaboration of the owners of the MV Thamesborg, Wagenborg Shipping, and their contracted salvage company T&T Salvage.
