Recently, the two core equipment for capacity expansion and renovation at Nanning Port of Beibu Gulf Port Group’s Beigang Xijiang Port — the gantry crane and the quayside container crane — have been successfully installed and have officially entered the commissioning phase. Once the equipment is operational, it will meet the all-weather loading and unloading needs of 5,000-tonne class river-sea direct vessels, marking a key breakthrough in the efficient connection between the Liujing Operation Area of Nanning Port and the Pinglu Canal.
The 40t-40m gantry crane (Berth No. 5) and the 41t-19m quayside container crane (Berth No. 10) installed this time are the core equipment for the renovation and upgrade of the Liujing Operation Area, and also the key hardware support for connecting the river-sea intermodal transport of the Pinglu Canal. Both pieces of equipment have been comprehensively upgraded in terms of lifting capacity and operating range, which can significantly improve the efficiency of single-vessel loading and unloading and berth turnover.
Among them, the 41t-19m quayside container crane offers stable lifting and precise positioning, enabling efficient handling of general cargo, heavy cargo, and containers, thus overcoming the shortcomings of traditional equipment; the 40t-40m gantry crane has a wide operating range and stable operation, capable of handling both general cargo and bulk cargo, and adds a new “water-to-water transshipment” function for bulk cargo, which can eliminate the need for transshipment steps and reduce the time cargo spends in port.
The completion of this equipment installation is an important achievement in supporting the construction of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor. The coordinated operation of the two pieces of equipment will fill the shortcomings of the port area in handling multiple cargo types, promote the precise alignment of port functions with the navigation requirements of the Pinglu Canal, and comprehensively enhance the comprehensive service level and logistics efficiency of the Liujing Operation Area.
