New CEO looks to rephrase classic Maersk word-of-mouth

Must read

”Due diligence” still a ”unique” value with A.P Møller-Mærsk, but new CEO Vincent Clerc doesn’t think it applies to every part of the carrier and logistics group.

Back in 1946, shipowner A.P. Møller made the phrase ”due diligence” one of the most well known within the Danish business community, and it has been a core value for the carrier group ever since.

In an interview with media Berlingske, Maersk’s new chief executive, Vincent Clerc, states that it is still a ”unique” value, however one that has become less applicable to certain parts of the organization:

”There are many parts of the organization where due diligence fits in well with the overall culture because we should never jeopardize safety measures or make sloppy investments,” Clerc says to the Danish daily.

”But one needs to keep in mind that the world is changing, and our work within technology, for instance, is not a matter of life and death. Here, small decisions can be made, we can choose to roll something out that is not quite finished and see how it performs. If it doesn’t work we can make small adjustments to it,” he adds.

In recent years, Maersk has made major investments to digitalization including prestige project Tradelens, which was shelved towards the end of 2022.
