Shandong Xinneng Shipbuilding achieves important milestone. As of now, Xinneng Shipbuilding has cumulatively delivered 112 new energy vessels of various types, with the single-category delivery volume of new energy transport ships exceeding 100 for the first time.

Data shows that in 2025, Xinneng Shipbuilding delivered 82 vessels and started construction on 108; monthly deliveries surged to 21 in December. In the first quarter of 2026, another 21 73-meter LNG vessels were delivered. The peak monthly production capacity of the joint workshop reaches 8 vessels, block production capacity has increased more than threefold compared to the initial stage, and overall efficiency has improved by 172%.

Traditional inland river vessels burn diesel, causing prominent emission issues. Xinneng Shipbuilding starts from the design stage, continuously tackling key challenges in four areas: new energy power, low-resistance hull forms, ship-engine-propeller matching, and structural lightweighting. It has successfully achieved an 8% reduction in vessel resistance, a 4% decrease in energy consumption, a 20% cut in carbon emissions, and a reduction of over 90% in nitrogen oxides and particulate matter emissions.

Currently, the spectrum of the 112 vessel types delivered by Xinneng Shipbuilding is gradually becoming comprehensive — various LNG-powered container ships are advancing into the Yangtze River, 67.6-meter pure electric multi-purpose vessels achieve zero carbon emissions, and there are also custom special-purpose vessels targeting overseas markets.

In the promotion of pure electric vessels, high battery costs and slow charging were once pain points. Xinneng Shipbuilding designs the batteries as replaceable containerized modules; shipowners only purchase the hull and lease the batteries, reducing initial investment by approximately 40%. The hoisting equipment at Jining Port and Shipping Longgong Port can complete battery swapping within minutes.

On March 16 this year, a 79.9-meter pure electric container vessel built by Xinneng Shipbuilding for CMA CGM slid into the water from the slipway. This is a 182TEU pure electric vessel customized by CMA CGM for its Vietnam route, and it is also the first pure electric inland river container vessel manufactured in China to be delivered to an overseas customer. The vessel is equipped with a CATL battery energy storage system. After delivery, it will be deployed on the route from Binh Duong Province to Cai Mep Port in Vietnam, with an annual transport volume exceeding 50,000 TEUs, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 778 tons per year.

Previously, Xinneng Shipbuilding has delivered various types of cargo vessels to countries such as Tanzania and Cuba. On the delivery map, “Jining-made” vessels are sailing from the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal to broader waters in Southeast Asia, Africa, and beyond.

Currently, the second phase project of Xinneng Shipbuilding is accelerating. After it goes into operation, it will form an annual capacity of building 200 transport vessels, 40 yachts, and repairing 50 vessels. Jining is planning a hundred-billion-yuan new energy vessel industrial park centered around this. As of now, Xinneng Shipbuilding has cumulatively received orders for over 200 vessels and has started construction on over 180 vessels.
