Built by Conrad Shipyard in Morgan City, Louisiana, this state-of-the-art vessel represents a major step forward in the company’s ongoing efforts to modernize and diversify its fleet. Purpose-built for efficient and safe operations in shallow and narrow waters, the Amelia Island is designed to serve all U.S. coastlines with precision and reliability.
Measuring 346ft by 69ft, and 23ft in depth, the vessel boasts 16,500hp, is equipped with two 800mm trailing suction pipes capable of dredging depths up to 100 feet, and features a hopper capacity of 6,330 cubic yards.
The main engines and generators meet EPA Tier IV standards, ensuring low emissions and environmentally responsible performance. These advanced capabilities place the Amelia Island at the forefront of modern dredging technology, enabling it to tackle a wide range of projects across ports, channels, and coastal developments throughout the United States.
The vessel’s high level of automation makes it ideally suited for operations such as beach renourishment, coastal protection, channel deepening, and maintenance dredging. With a full schedule already lined up for 2025 and 2026, the Amelia Island is set to begin work immediately.
Joining sister ship Galveston Island, Amelia Island strengthens the company’s commitment to enhancing maritime infrastructure nationwide. It also reaffirms Great Lakes Dredge & Dock’s partnership with the US Army Corps of Engineers and its dedication to advancing the US dredging industry.
