New requirements on garbage record books in Australia

Must read

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has advised that from May 1st 2024 Australian vessels of 100 gt and above on an overseas voyage will be required to maintain a garbage record book. This is in addition to the existing requirement of carrying a garbage management plan.

Before this, the requirement applied to ships of 400 gt or above. The Garbage Record Book, must be in the form specified in appendix II of MARPOL Annex V.

Lloyd’s Register in April urged owners to ensure that the requirement of providing a Garbage Record Book was duly implemented on board ships to which the new rules would apply.
