A total potential investment of 172 million dollars is expected
Oslo – Nordic American Tankers (Nat), a Norwegian company specialized in the transport of crude oil, has signed a Letter of Intent (Loi) for the construction of two new Suezmax-class tankers at a shipyard in South Korea. The preliminary agreement represents the first newbuilding order for Nat since 2020 and provides for a total potential investment of 172 million dollars, with each Suezmax vessel valued at approximately 86 million dollars. The ships are expected for delivery in the second half of 2028, while the finalization of the definitive shipbuilding contract is expected by the beginning of 2026. The operation, announced by the founder, chairman and ceo Herbjorn Hansson, is part of the company’s fleet modernization strategy, currently composed of approximately 20 Suezmax. The move reflects Nat’s confidence in a strong long-term crude oil shipping market and aims to position the fleet with more efficient units in line with new operational and environmental standards. The name of the shipyard will be announced upon the signing of the definitive contract, which is expected by the beginning of 2026. Historically, Nat had commissioned its last Suezmax in 2020 from Samsung Heavy Industries.
