Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line) signed an agreement with BHP Group Ltd (BHP) to renew a memorandum of understanding (MOU) initially concluded in June 2022. It seeks to reinforce the commitment of both companies to support decarbonization and improve the safety of ship operations through enhanced collaboration.
The renewed MOU introduces the following updated initiatives, such as the continuation of joint research on technologies for dual-fuel ammonia ships, biofuel trial propulsion and other measures to promote low-carbon shipping and enhanced safety operation through the supply of NYK Line vessel tonnage for the shipping of a wide range of dry bulk cargoes
By establishing a bilateral collaboration model, NYK Line and BHP aim to generate momentum in the dry bulk industry, focusing on both decarbonization and safe operations.
“We are delighted to further strengthen our strategic partnership with BHP and work together to promote decarbonization and enhance safe operations in the dry bulk industry. Amid an uncertain landscape for environmental regulations, we will combine the strengths of both companies to accelerate the development of next-generation environmental technologies and steadily advance towards achieving our net-zero emissions target by 2050,” stated Hiroaki Nishiyama, executive officer of the dry bulk division of NYK Line.
