An oil tanker carrying about 1 million barrels of crude oil experienced an engine room explosion off the coast of Libya on June 27.

As reported, fortunately, no injuries or pollution were reported, according to a spokesperson for the operator, TMS Tankers.

The tanker Vilamoura had departed Libya’s Zuetina port en route to Gibraltar when the incident occurred.

The vessel is currently being towed to Greece and is expected to arrive by 2 July.

According to earlier reports by Vanguard, some have speculated that the vessel was the victim of a limpet mine attack, although this remains unconfirmed by official sources.
