The introduction of shore power in the ports of Shenzhen marks a step forward in the reduction of emissions and in the standardization of green processes

Singapore – Ocean Network Express (One) is intensifying its commitment to sustainable development in the Greater Bay area, starting a collaboration with Yantian International Container Terminals and the China Merchants Port (South China) Operation Center for the adoption of shore power.

The company has developed a mobile shore power system that allows the use of electricity from the grid instead of the onboard diesel generators, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions, noise, and fuel consumption during the port stay. The cooperation with the two main ports of Shenzhen allows for a complete integration between the onboard equipment and the onshore infrastructure, also defining a standardized system in line with the IMO’s decarbonization strategies.

The Director of One Hong Kong and South China, Li Shengyang, emphasized that achieving carbon neutrality in the maritime sector requires the joint contribution of the entire supply chain and that the large-scale diffusion of shore power is a decisive element. He added that the collaboration with the ports of Yantian and Shekou constitutes a significant step in the application of One’s ESG strategy and an operational model aimed at promoting coordinated and environmentally respectful development between shipping companies and port terminals.

With the full adoption of the shore power system in the eastern and western terminals of Shenzhen, One ships calling at the port will in the future be able to operate with zero emissions and reduced noise levels during their stay.
