10% of the transshipped containerized cargo handled by Terminal Puerto Arica (TPA) comes from Peru, mainly from the regions of Tacna, Ilo, Moquegua, Puno, and Arequipa. In this sense, the Peruvian market that exports through the concessionaire has recorded a 68% growth so far in 2025, compared to the previous year.
It is worth mentioning that Peru’s share adds to the 70% that corresponds to various products linked to Bolivia, while the remaining 20% is related to domestic consumption. In this way, TPA has handled a total of 1,500,000 tons of cargo in the first half of 2025.
“The Peruvian export market that moves through TPA has recorded a 68% growth compared to the previous year. This movement is mainly composed of two products, with olives being the most representative, with a 52% share,” communicated the concessionaire of the Port of Arica.
“This product, considered an emblem of the Tacna region, went through a complex scenario during the last two years due to climatic factors. However, it currently shows a sustained recovery, which has allowed the resumption of supply to markets such as Brazil,” it added.
In line with the above, TPA valued that another notable category is hydrobiological products, which are exported in reefer containers and represent a 15% share of the total moved. “Like olives, this sector was also affected by weather conditions, although it currently presents a much more favorable outlook. In general, the Peruvian market has managed to overcome a difficult stage and projects a future that is optimistic and growing,” noted TPA.
“Likewise, this year the market has reached a new milestone with the incorporation of the mining sector, highlighting the shipment of molybdenum and the consolidation of ulexite. We expect to continue promoting the export of these resources and maintain the sustained growth of the sector as a whole,” it added.
Over the years, TPA has strengthened its relationship with Peruvian exporting companies, offering solutions that optimize times, reduce costs, and guarantee cargo traceability. Its connectivity with southern Peru – only 60 km from Tacna and 425 km from Arequipa – makes the terminal a natural alternative for that country’s foreign trade.
As advantages, personalized customer service, specialized infrastructure, continuous 24/7 operation, and competitive conditions were highlighted, such as three days of stacking per shipping line at no cost for exporters (container reception at a 0 USD rate).
Furthermore, the Port of Arica terminal has more than 300 connections for reefer containers, weighing service (VGM), and consolidation within the port facility, which “guarantees safer and more efficient operations,” emphasized TPA.
Recognition
The Association of Exporters of Peru (Adex) chose TPA as “Exporter of the Week” during the month of October.
