A delegation from Peru will arrive in California, United States, to fulfill an official agenda at the Port of Hueneme. This is within the framework of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that formalizes the sister seaport relationship with Paita.
The agreement aims to strengthen technical cooperation, drive innovation, and promote commercial competitiveness for the benefit of both port terminals. This strategic alliance will help reinforce maritime connectivity between the north coast of Peru and the west coast of the United States, increase container traffic, and open new commercial opportunities for exporters from the north of the country, especially from the agro-industrial sector.
The delegation is composed of Jorge Chávez, General Manager of the National Port Authority (APN); members of the Board of Directors of the Port of Paita; and representatives of Terminales Portuarios Euroandinos (TPE), including its CEO, Eduardo Cerdeira, as well as delegates from the Peruvian export sector.
During their visit, the delegation will tour the facilities of the U.S. port, learn firsthand about its sustainability and logistical innovation projects; and will participate in technical and commercial exchange sessions with their North American counterparts.
The MoU signing ceremony will take place on October 14 and will be attended by local authorities and business representatives. Both parties began exploring this relationship in 2024, before a delegation from Hueneme visited Paita earlier this year.
“The Sister Port relationship we have with the Port of Paita highlights our shared vision not only of global collaboration but also of sharing best practices and expanding commercial opportunities that will benefit the local economies of both regions,” said Kristin Decas, Executive Director of the Port of Hueneme.
Key areas established in the MoU include improving transparency in procurement processes, sharing best practices in port management, and collaborating on green energy projects.
Reflecting on the broader impact of the alliance, Eduardo Cerdeira, CEO of Terminales Portuarios Euroandinos, stated that “the Sister Port program between Hueneme and Paita marks a milestone that goes beyond the relationship between two ports. It represents an initiative that drives a model to expand new commercial alternatives and maritime routes, fostering a knowledge exchange with the aim of benefiting communities along the west coast of the Americas.”
Finally, it is worth mentioning that TPE will participate together with the Port of Hueneme in the international fair Global Produce & Floral Show 2025, which will take place on October 16, 17, and 18 in Anaheim, California. Both entities will share a joint booth.
