The Port Authority of Santos (APS) has admitted 80 new members to the Port Guard, who were approved in the Public Tender that began in the second half of 2024. This is a 30% reinforcement of the corporation’s staff, which now has 342 officers.

This week, the guards are participating in an integration process until Friday (21). The program includes lectures with managers from various APS sectors, information about the areas of operation of the public company, data on functional life, and content about the past, present, and future of the Port of Santos.

In addition to the objective test in 2024, the guards were approved in the Training Course and Analysis of Past Life, an eliminatory stage consisting of an assessment of theoretical knowledge and a practical test for firearm carrying.

“The Port of Santos has been growing in size, efficiency, and productivity. The reinforcement in staff is necessary to keep up with the expansion and guarantee the security of the Port of the future,” says Beto Mendes, APS Operations Director.

“The new guards represent an enhancement to public port security, in guaranteeing operations, inspection, and the fluidity of port traffic,” points out the Superintendent of the Port Guard, Wagner Pinheiro de Almeida.

After the integration period, the officers will undergo three months of training before beginning to work throughout the perimeter of the Port of Santos.

The Port Guard’s responsibilities include access control to the Port, acting as a traffic authority within the perimeter, maritime patrol of the access channel and anchorage area (in support of the Brazilian Navy and the Federal Police), fire prevention and fighting, accreditation of companies, people, and vehicles that access the Port, the development of intelligence actions, and the ostensive policing of the port complex.
