Initial safety assessments have been conducted at Port Canaveral following the passage of Hurricane Ian and the port reopened at 4 p.m. Friday for vessels up to 500gt.
It is anticipated Canaveral will open for all other traffic at midnight, provided waterway surveys are satisfactory. If that’s the case, cruise ships would likely start arriving shortly after midnight, in the wee hours of Saturday morning.
Record seven cruise ships Saturday
A record seven cruise ships are expected, and since the port has six cruise terminals, MSC Divina will arrive, drop off passengers and depart, enabling Carnival Liberty to use that terminal. Then Divina will be back Sunday to embark passengers.
The five other ships due back Saturday are Disney Fantasy, Mariner of the Seas, Independence of the Seas, Mardi Gras and Carnival Freedom.
