Port cargo movement in the Bio Bio Region grows 5.4% in 12 months

The total cargo mobilized in the ports of the Bio Bio Region during August was 2,364,838 tons compared to the same month of the previous year, recording a growth of 5.4% in the annual comparison, according to information from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

This result was a consequence of the increased movement of the services: Embarked abroad, Disembarked from abroad, Transit, and Re-stowage and transshipment. On the other hand, the Cabotage service recorded a decrease compared to August 2024.

The highest positive incidence was observed in the Embarked abroad service, which mobilized 1,105,615 tons in August 2025, showing an increase of 10.0% compared to the same month of the previous year, mainly influenced by the increase in containerized cargo (7.2%), loose or general cargo (12.1%), and solid bulk (74.6%).

Disembarked from abroad registered 734,344 tons in the month of analysis, recording an increase of 2.9% compared to the same month of the previous year, influenced by the increase in gaseous liquid bulk cargo (42.0%) and containers (17.9%).

For its part, Transit mobilized 43,575 tons in August 2025, recording an increase of 49.5% compared to the same month of the previous year, mainly influenced by the increase in disembarked cargo (70.9%).

Re-stowage and transshipment rose 14.1% in twelve months, mobilizing 57,439 tons in August 2025, as a consequence of increased re-stowage activity (13.7%) and transshipments (54.2%).

The Cabotage service experienced an annual decrease of 4.9%, totaling 423,865 tons in the reference month, explained by the lower disembarked cargo (-31.6%).
