Slight decrease of 0.5%, automotive sector performs well with a 4.6% increase

Barcelona – The port of Barcelona closed the first ten months of the year with a traffic of 58.7 million tons, a figure that represents a slight decrease of 0.5%, but which keeps the overall activity at levels identical to the previous financial year. The Catalan port underlines that “total traffic is in line with that of last year”, a trend explained by the solidity of sectors such as vehicle and container imports, together with the upward trend of liquid bulk, which have made it possible to compensate for the declines recorded in other areas. Among the segments that contributed to this stabilization, the automotive sector stands out, which in October recorded an increase of 4.6% compared to 2024, reaching 593,205 vehicles. This increase is attributed to the strong impetus of imports, which grew by 35.6% with 152,025 units, favored by the arrival of new car carriers, the recovery of the European market and the increase in vehicles from China.
