The Port of Corpus Christi has moved nearly 50 million tonnes of goods through the Corpus Christi Ship Channel in Q2 2023, setting a record for the fifth consecutive quarter.
The 49.7 million tonnes moved in Q2 was a 7.1 per cent rise over the same time last year and a small gain over the previous record established in Q1 2023.
The new high is mostly due to an increase in crude oil shipments. When compared to Q1 2023, crude oil shipments at the Port of Corpus Christi increased by 3.1 per cent to almost 31.1 million tonnes.
The Port of Corpus Christi transported 99.3 million tonnes in the first six months of 2023, a 10.3 per cent increase over the same time in 2022.

Crude oil, petroleum products, and dry bulk commodities were the top commodities in the first half of this year.
Kent Britton, Interim Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer for the Port of Corpus Christi, said: “The continued growth in goods movements is testament to the strength of our Port of Corpus Christi customers and their capacity to meet the energy needs of our global trading partners and allies.
“The infrastructure growth of the past decade in this region has our customers well positioned for success.”
The Port of Corpus Christi celebrated the completion of Phase 2 of the four-phase Corpus Christi Ship Channel Improvement Project (CIP), a national critical infrastructure project that will strengthen the Corpus Christi Ship Channel from Texas to Florida.

The third phase is projected to be finished in 2023, while the fourth and final phase is now up for bid and will be awarded by the US Army Corps of Engineers in October 2023.
