Port of Lisbon maintains growth path with 3.4% increase in cargo handled between January and August

The Port of Lisbon maintains its consolidated growth trend in 2025, with a 3.4% increase in Total Handled Cargo in the first eight months of the year, compared to the same period of the previous year.

Between January and August, 7.73 million tons transited through the port infrastructure, compared to 7.47 million in the same period of 2024.

The General Cargo segment stands out especially so far this year, totaling 3.69 million tons and recording a 5.9% increase compared to the same period of the previous year, while Breakbulk Cargo registered a 30.66% increase, reaching 218,800 tons. Regarding container movement, the Port of Lisbon recorded 321,656 TEU from January to August, representing a 5.35% increase compared to 2024.

Solid bulks also contributed to the positive results, with 3.11 million tons handled so far this year, representing a 3.8% increase compared to 2024.

August 2025 proved to be a particularly positive month for port activity. The total cargo handled during this period reached 1.08 million tons, representing a year-on-year increase of 12.49%. This result was mainly due to the extraordinary performance of solid bulks, which recorded a 79.53% increase, rising from 276,900 tons in August 2024 to 497,200 tons in the same month of 2025. General cargo also contributed to the month’s positive results, despite a 12.44% decrease, totaling 474,000 tons.

The number of cargo vessel calls remained stable so far this year, with 1,254 between January and August.
