The supervisory board of Port of Marseille Fos approved on 27 November 2025 its new long-term roadmap, the “Marseille Fos 25-29” strategic project, according to the release.
The plan outlines major investments and infrastructure projects to support a diversified port ecosystem covering maritime, logistics, industrial operations, and multimodal transport, including sea, rail, river, road, and pipelines. One of the medium-term goals is the extension of the “Distriport” logistics area at the Fos-sur-Mer site.
The project would add 126.5 hectares, expanding capacity for future growth and supporting container terminals.
The Port of Marseille Fos spans about 10,400 hectares across land and water, enabling a broad mix of activities. In 2024, the port handled 1.45 million TEUs, and investments that year totaled €99 million. The port manages a wide range of cargo flows — from containers to liquid and solid bulk, industrial freight, and logistics — consistent with its multimodal design. In the first half of 2025, cargo traffic rose 7.3% year-over-year to 37 million tonnes, driven by increases in solid bulk, vehicles, and Ro-Ro transport.
Port of Marseille Fos is a French public port authority operating under the legal status of a “grand port maritime,” which places it under state supervision while granting it administrative and financial autonomy. It manages maritime, industrial, and logistics activities across the Marseille and Fos-sur-Mer areas, oversees port infrastructure, allocates land to operators, and coordinates development with national and regional institutions.
