The Port of Motril closed the accumulated cargo until September with a growth of 10.66% compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching a total of 2,176,104 tons moved in its facilities.
The analysis by type of traffic reveals that the largest increase in the Spanish terminal corresponds to liquid bulk, with 18%, driven by activity linked to energy products. This is followed by general merchandise, which records an increase of 14.4%, consolidating the diversification and commercial dynamism of the port enclave.
The president of the Port Authority, José García Fuentes, emphasized that these results “demonstrate the confidence of companies in Motril and in the strategic role of the port as an economic engine for the province of Granada, generating employment and new opportunities for the productive fabric.”
He also indicated that “the data confirms that we are going in the right direction. Our objective now is to continue diversifying traffic to consolidate and increase import-export activity, making Motril an even more competitive port and a generator of opportunities for companies.”
The Port of Motril has strengthened its strategic position in the Spanish port system by maintaining sustained growth in cargo traffic during the last three years in the period between January and September. Thus, in 2023, the port facility registered an increase during those nine months compared to the same period in 2022, reaching figures close to two million tons. This growth was mainly supported by the boost in solid bulk and the dynamism of exports from the province of Granada.
The data from 2022 already reflected this positive trend, which was consolidated significantly in 2023, placing the Port of Motril among those with the highest percentage development in Spain. In 2024, the numbers confirmed it again, while in 2025 the increase until September is already at 10.6% and 2.1 million tons compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year.
