A CMA CGM container ship, built in 2022, managed to leave the Strait of Hormuz during the morning of Sunday, June 28, according to the company, currently consolidated as the world’s third largest shipping line in maritime container transport.
In detail, the multinational confirmed that the CMA CGM Galapagos, sailing under the French flag, completed the transit through the waterway without incident.
The crossing occurred in an atmosphere of tension, as days earlier the Ever Lovely of Evergreen was hit by an Iranian projectile, an incident that subsequently led to a second attack, this time against the tanker Kiku.
“This crossing marks an important milestone in a regional context that remains complex and demands constant vigilance,” CMA CGM highlighted in a statement, although it refused to offer further details on the exact circumstances in which the vessel left the strait.
Likewise, the shipping line detailed that it still maintains 10 vessels stranded in the Persian Gulf, which have remained in the area since the start of the armed conflict on February 28.
Before the attack on the Ever Lovely, the shipping line Maersk reported that two of its vessels, the Maersk Baltimore and a time-chartered ship, managed to successfully cross the strategic Strait of Hormuz and leave the Persian Gulf area safely.
For its part, Hapag-Lloyd reported having set in motion all its ships that were held in the Persian Gulf, according to a company spokesperson in response to a query from Reuters.
It is worth mentioning that after the attack on the Ever Lovely, Iran reaffirmed its right to control navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and warned the Gulf States not to align with the United States.
In retaliation, the United States Central Command (Centcom) reported that it carried out a series of bombings against Iranian positions during the day of Friday, June 26 due to the aggression perpetrated against the Evergreen vessel.
