PortCastelló advances its largest logistical transformation in decades. The start-up in 2027 of the southern railway accesses and the intermodal station will mark a turning point in the port’s competitiveness, expanding its hinterland, attracting new traffic and reinforcing its role as a strategic node of the Mediterranean arc. The president of the Autoridad Portuaria de Castellón, has emphasized that “these infrastructures represent a historic leap: the port will be a before and after with the railway. We will be more competitive, more connected and much more sustainable,” Rubén Ibáñez acknowledged.
Terminal reorganization
Added to all this is a historic decision, such as the reorganization of the terminals in the northern basin of the port of Castellón, which will mean having 1.4 kilometers of multipurpose docks. “This reorganization provides immediate flexibility to the port and prepares it to respond to the new traffic that the railway accesses and the intermodal station will attract,” stated Rubén Ibáñez. To this new infrastructure configuration is added a historic agreement between stevedores and terminal operators, which will allow for the adjustment of operational costs, improved productivity and the positioning of PortCastelló with highly competitive rates. “This agreement opens a new stage for our port: a modern, balanced and competitive framework that will allow us to capture traffic that previously did not come to Castellón,” said the president of the Autoridad Portuaria, Rubén Ibáñez.
