The ports of Bayonne and Pasaia wish to consolidate and formalize their cross-border cooperation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), a strategic agreement expected to be signed during November, which will form the basis of an alliance aimed at promoting sustainability and innovation in maritime transport.
A delegation from the Gipuzkoan port visited the facilities of the Basque-French infrastructure to formalize the union.
The visit, organized by the Port Society of the Port of Bayonne and the Port Authority of Pasaia (APP), served to strengthen the ties between both entities, share management experiences, and explore new opportunities for cooperation in the logistical, environmental, and innovation fields.
Present during the day were Izaskun Goñi, president of the APP, and Pascal Marty, president of the Port Society. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to developing a common strategy that contributes to the competitiveness and sustainability of the shared territory.
“With the port of Pasaia, we are initiating a phase of stable and structured collaboration for the benefit of the regional economy and a greener logistics,” highlighted Marty.
“The willingness to cooperate is shared between two ports that face the same challenges and share the same values: sustainability, innovation, and service to the territory,” declared Goñi.
Both ports are part of the Atlantic Corridor of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) and share a strong industrial, intermodal, and cross-border vocation. Their geographical and functional complementarity offers a unique opportunity to build a sustainable logistics arc between Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Euskadi, for the benefit of companies and communities on both sides of the border.
This visit, which follows up on the one made by the Port of Bayonne to the Pasaia facilities in June, concluded with the shared goal of confirming these intentions by signing a protocol of agreement (MoU) in the coming weeks, aimed at strengthening cross-border connectivity, logistical efficiency, and the sustainable development of both terminals.
