A group of casual port workers from Valparaíso reignited incendiary barricades, which caused the vehicular traffic to be cut off on Avenida Errázuriz at Sotomayor street.

The protest takes place within the framework of a pending negotiation with Report -linked to Terminal Portuario Valparaíso (TPV)– due to a lack of agreement on a rate adjustment.

It is worth mentioning that casual port workers are workers who are appointed in shifts, according to the needs of each terminal, so their contract lasts for the period for which they have been summoned, being signed and finalized at the start and close of the respective period.

In this regard, Carabineros Región de Valparaíso reported that “due to demonstrations and barricades on Avenida Errázuriz at Sotomayor street, prefer alternative routes, procedure in development”

Meanwhile, TransporteInforma Región de Valparaíso reported “traffic suspended on Avenida Errázuriz and Blanco between Sotomayor and Plaza Aduana due to people on the roadway. Consider alternative routes.”

A high level of vehicular congestion would remain in the area. Likewise, Carabineros personnel would have been deployed to the site to try to disperse the port workers.

In line with audiovisual records disseminated through social media, the workers -dressed in their orange overalls and some covering their faces- were captured throwing blunt objects at a vehicle and a group of officials from the police institution.

Finally, it is worth remembering that the Sindicato de Estibadores de Valparaíso closed an agreement with Ultraport -linked to Terminal Pacífico Sur (TPS)– for a rate adjustment for casual port workers, which occurred after similar days of protest.
