Chilean President José Antonio Kast met with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Paraguay to address, among other topics, security related to the development of the bioceanic corridor to connect Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Chile.
“We care a lot about the issue of port security and that we all collaborate to combat organized crime,” the President indicated after the meeting, on the sidelines of the 17th Summit of Heads of State and Government of Mercosur in the Paraguayan city of Luque.
Kast indicated that this network of roads and infrastructure that seeks to connect Brazil with the ports of northern Chile, through Paraguay and Argentina, “will allow greater speed and flow of goods towards Asia, but also towards Europe.” This is a project that aims to connect the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans through a road network of about 2,400 kilometers.
The Head of State added that Chile, which participates as an associated country in the meeting of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), is interested in Latin America “being a safe continent.”
“Along with the issue of trade, security is essential so that trade flows as it should and is not captured by organized crime,” Kast concluded.
The trip of the Chilean President, his second since he came to power in Chile last March, includes a two-day tour of Uruguay starting Wednesday, where he will be received by Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi.
