Puerto Mejillones completed the construction of a fourth arm for truck loading, an initiative that increases the sulfuric acid road dispatch capacity by 33%, strengthening the continuity of supply to its customers and the efficiency of the operation.
With this expansion, the terminal will be able to dispatch up to 300 trucks daily, consolidating its role as a strategic player for the mining logistics chain, the company remarked.
According to Puerto Mejillones, this initiative has a direct impact on the safety and costs of the sulfuric acid supply logistics chain as it aims to reduce truck waiting times within the terminal.
The execution was carried out in five phases: structural construction, scale assembly, installation of the hydraulic arm, internal integration, and commissioning, a stage that is currently in operational white run.
“The project responds to our objective of supporting clients in their needs for continuous and on-time supply. This expansion allows us to offer greater flexibility in the face of variations in the logistics schedule, reinforcing reliability,” said Matías Errázuriz, general manager of Puerto Mejillones.
“Puerto Mejillones is a key player in the supply of sulfuric acid for the mining industry, an essential input in copper production. Monthly, we participate in the logistics chain of more than 20 mining-related operations, which reflects our relevance in the continuity of productive processes and in strengthening Chile’s logistics operation,” he added.
