Shanghai, November 25 (Xie Mengyuan, Zhang Wenhao, Li Qiuying) – The 174,000 cubic meter liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier “Qingcheng” built by CSSC Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. was named and delivered on the 24th, ahead of schedule. This is the seventh large LNG carrier delivered by Hudong-Zhonghua for the COSCO SHIPPING PetroChina International LNG transport project. So far, Hudong-Zhonghua has delivered a total of 9 LNG carriers this year, setting a new record for annual LNG carrier deliveries in China.
The “Qingcheng” was independently developed by Hudong-Zhonghua. It has an overall length of 295 meters, a beam of 45 meters, a depth of 26.25 meters, and a service speed of 19.5 knots. It is classed by Lloyd’s Register (LR) and the China Classification Society (CCS). The vessel features low evaporation rate, low energy consumption, high reliability, high environmental performance, strong versatility, and excellent economic efficiency, among many other characteristics.
This ship type adopts the global latest generation dual-fuel low-speed propulsion power system, utilizes domestically produced propellers, and has re-optimized the matching of the “ship, engine, and propeller,” resulting in a 1.25% reduction in main engine power and a further decrease in fuel consumption. Both the main engine and generators are equipped with environmental protection devices SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction), allowing both fuel oil and gas modes to meet the world’s most stringent environmental emission requirements.
In advancing the COSCO SHIPPING PetroChina International LNG transport project, COSCO SHIPPING Energy Transportation, PetroChina International, Hudong-Zhonghua, and Kunlun Financial Leasing have worked hand in hand to jointly create a benchmark domestic LNG carrier project financed in RMB. They achieved a breakthrough by realizing full-chain RMB settlement for chartering, shipbuilding, and financing. This not only provides a unique “Chinese Solution” for building the financial ecosystem of the LNG industry chain but also establishes a new, replicable, and promotable possibility for RMB settlement.
It is reported that this project was signed in three phases. Currently, Hudong-Zhonghua has completed the first and second phases, with the six LNG carriers “Shaolin,” “Wudang,” “Kunlun,” “Emei,” “Huashan,” and “Kongtong” all delivered.
Hudong-Zhonghua and COSCO SHIPPING Energy Transportation have cooperated to build 43 LNG carriers. Currently, the construction of another 21 LNG carriers through their cooperation is steadily progressing. (End)
