Pacific Encounter declared she was Queensland’s own when she arrived
at the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal on Saturday
P&O Cruises Australia’s Pacific Encounter arrived in Brisbane on Saturday where she will be berthed year-round at the International Cruise Terminal.
Draped in a giant banner reading QLD’s OWN, the ship gave a whistle salute to her new homeport.
Rebuilding cruise tourism
Marguerite Fitzgerald, president of Carnival Australia and P&O Cruises Australia, said Queensland, with more destinations than any other Australian state, will be vital in rebuilding cruise tourism in Australia and theinternational region.
Fitzgerald said Pacific Encounter will play a major role in reopening the South Pacific and Papua New Guinea.
‘Brisbane has always been a great turnaround port for cruises to New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea and will be again before too long as P&O’s horizons grow,’ she said.
Boost for suppliers
‘Having Pacific Encounter based year-round in Brisbane is also a welcome boost for our suppliers for whom our cruise operations are an economic opportunity and an essential contribution to their businesses.’
She said Pacific Encounter will make 24 cruises from Brisbane until the end of the year and another 54 cruises in 2023.
