Capital goods imports totaled nearly $12.8 billion in the first 10 months of 2025, according to a statement from the Trade Intelligence Management of the Argentine Agency for Investments and International Trade (AAICI).
The agency explained that the figures from the survey based on official statistics are 60.6% above the values recorded in the same period of 2024 and set a record for the country.
The analysis by the Agency’s Trade Intelligence Management adds that the nearly US$12.8 billion is also 39.17% above the 10-year average for purchases of machinery and inputs.
So far in 2025, one out of every three dollars of increase in total imports was explained by purchases of capital goods.
Between January and October 2025, purchases of intermediate goods totaled US$20.8 billion (+7.2% year-on-year), while receipts of parts and accessories for capital goods amounted to nearly US$13.1 billion (+21.0% year-on-year).
Competitiveness
“Imports in these categories are crucial for greasing the productive process, as they improve the competitiveness of national companies in external markets to drive higher exports, value addition, and diversification of the export basket,” said the official agency.
They also explained that these purchases drive productive investment, innovation, productivity, and the modernization of companies, and facilitate Argentina’s insertion into global value chains.
“The current context of macroeconomic stabilization, tax reduction, the return of credit, the elimination of regulations and bureaucratic obstacles, and the resulting greater commercial openness have allowed for the recreation of a context of lower uncertainty and better conditions for company planning,” adds the statement.
The Agency attributes the growth in capital goods imports to measures such as the elimination of the SIRA, normalization of commercial debt for importers, elimination of the PAIS tax for imports, facilitation of technical and regulatory procedures, reduction of import tariffs, and measures aimed at lowering export costs (temporary import regime, and expansion of the simplified export regime Exporta Simple, among others).
