A ship operated by French container carrier CMA CGM was apparently the intended target of two missiles in the Red Sea.
According to the US central command Centcom, two ballistic missiles were launched on Thursday from Yemen, where the Houthi movement has been attacking merchant ships for months.
The missiles impacted in the water without hitting the ship

”The missiles impacted in the water without hitting the ship. There were no injuries and no damage reported to the M/V Koi or coalition ships in the area,” reads a press release.
CMA CGM is one of the few major shipping companies that has chosen to continue sending ships through the Red Sea, which leads up to the Suez Canal in Egypt.
This is partly because the company’s vessels are escorted by warships from the French Navy.
A number of other major shipping companies such as MSC, Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd are currently routing their ships south of Africa when transporting goods from Asia to Europe.
The Houthi movement is supported by Iran and began its attacks in mid-November 2023 to show its opposition to Israel’s war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
WPO is trying to get a comment from CMA CGM.
