È rientrato a Genova ‘cresciuto’ di capienza Gnv Polaris, first example of the new series of 8 ferries built in China by the company of the Msc group.

The ship, after the completion of the refitting works carried out at the Guangzhou Shipyard International (Gsi) shipyard, arrived in the Ligurian port to resume operations on the Genoa–Palermo line starting next June 9, in view of the summer season.

“The intervention, completed one month ahead of schedule, involved the installation of a new block of cabins aft, with the addition of 141 new accommodations for passengers. Thanks to this upgrade, Gnv Polaris significantly increases its accommodation capacity, now having 387 cabins for a total of 1,515 transportable passengers, thus strengthening the Company’s offer in line with the development strategy of the network and services dedicated to passengers” explained a company note.

“The intervention was already planned in the evolution of the series project, in line with Gnv’s choice to strengthen its offer. During the construction phase, however, the progress of the work did not allow further modifications without impacting delivery: the company therefore decided to postpone the intervention to guarantee full service during the summer season 2025”.

Delivered by the Gsi shipyard in October 2024, Gnv Polaris is 218 meters long, has a gross tonnage of approximately 49,000 tons and a linear cargo capacity of 3,182 meters. It is the first of eight latest-generation units commissioned by the Msc Group from the Chinese shipyard as part of the plan to renew and strengthen the Gnv fleet.
