China has provided a berth in Zhoushan for US-sanctioned RoRo cargo ship Angara (IMO 9179842). Think tank Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) claimed that the Angara has been anchored in the port of Zhoushan in China’s Zhejiang province since February 2024. According to the UK think tank the vessel has transported thousands of containers to Russian ports since August last year, which allegedly contained weapons from North Korea. Marine traffic lists the vessel as arriving at Ningbo Anchorage on April 28th, having left Liuheng, China on April 24th.

1998-built, Russia-flagged, 8,811 gt Angara is owned by M Leasing LLC of Moscow, Russia. It is managed by Marine Trans Shipping LLC of Astrakhan, Russia. As of April 28th the vessel was at Ningbo Anchorage, China.

Scotland’s Caledonian MacBrayne has announced further delays to the return to service of 30-years-old /vehicle RoRo Caledonian Isles (IMO 9051284), which it said would be out of action until the end of August. In January the vessel was deemed unfit to return to service during its annual inspection at the Cammell Laird Yard in Birkenhead. The main means of crossing between Ardrossan and Brodick relies on a single, smaller ship, the 40-year-old 3,296 gt Isle of Arran (IMO 8219554). The operator had promised in February that the Caledonian Isles would return in June, but this has now been revised until at least the end of August. The steel repair work required is understood to involve removing all the engines (cost, £5m).

1993-built, UK-flagged, 5,221 gt Caledonian Isles is owned by Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd of Gourock, UK. It is also the ISM manager. Commercial manager is Calmac Ferries Ltd of the same address. It is entered with NorthStandard on behalf of Calmac Ferries ltd.

Cruise ship Odyssey of the Seas (IMO 9795737) diverted to Bermuda on April 23rd in order to drop off a 31-year-old Indonesian male crew member who required medical attention. The ship was on its way from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Ponta Delgada in the Azores. The sick crew member was taken to Ordnance Island pilot boat St George and then transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

2021-built, Bahamas-flagged, 167,704 gt Odyssey of The Seas is owned by Odyssey of The Seas Inc care of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd of Miami, Florida, USA. It is entered with Gard P&I on behalf of Odyssey Of The Seas Inc. It is entered with Gard AS for Hull on behalf of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. As of April 28th it was moored at Ponte Delgada, The Azores, Portugal.

Two men who arrived in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, aboard cruise ship Norwegian Sky (IMO 9128532) on April 19th have been reported missing. Neither Pascal Bosman of the Netherlands nor Martire Cabrera of the Dominican Republic returned to the cruise ship for departure. Local authorities noted that neither had departed the territory officially. The British Virgin Islands was the last port of call before the ship returned to La Romana in the Dominican Republic, where the vessel had set sail from on April 10th for the 10-day Caribbean cruise. The ship had previously visited a variety of destinations, including Aruba, Curacao, Barbados, St. Lucia and Antigua.

There had been no reports from family members or other concerned individuals about either of the missing men, and it was not known whether or not they were travelling together or known to each other.

1999-built, Bahamas-flagged, 77,104 gt Norwegian Sky is owned by Norwegian Sky Ltd care of NCL (Bahamas) Ltd of Miami, Florida. It is entered with UK Club on behalf of NCL (Bahamas) Ltd. As of April 28th it was moored at the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean Sea.
