Royal Wagenborg officially laid the keel for six new EasyMax 2 vessels at the Royal Niestern Sander shipyard in Delfzijl, the Netherlands, in the presence of Bureau Veritas, marking a major breakthrough in sustainable shipping and regional industrial innovation.

The EasyMax concept, first introduced in 2017, has become a benchmark in low-fuel multipurpose shipping. With its combination of size, cargo capacity, and low consumption, it has proven its value in Wagenborg’s industrial shipping services.

The new generation EasyMax 2 builds on this success, incorporating additional innovations in hull design, propulsion, and emission reduction.

The construction of hulls 871 to 876 at Royal Niestern Sander highlights the strength of shipbuilding in the northern Netherlands. As a family-owned company with deep roots in the region, Wagenborg continues to invest in local craftsmanship, engineering excellence, and long-term collaborations.

The keel-laying ceremony also provides a boost to employment and continuity in the northern Netherlands. The construction of six vessels ensures stable work for hundreds of skilled professionals at Niestern Sander and its supply chain partners. Furthermore, it strengthens the region’s maritime cluster and fosters knowledge transfer between generations of shipbuilders.

This initiative is not just about building ships, but about building a forward-looking fleet that promotes responsible transport throughout Europe and beyond. The delivery of the first EasyMax 2.0 is expected in early 2027.
