Safetytech Accelerator, established by Lloyd’s Register, has announced a collaboration with the Container Ship Safety Forum e.V. (CSSF) to identify opportunities for technology to solve a number of critical safety, risk and environmental issues with the shipping of containers.
The CSSF is specifically working with Safetytech Accelerator on acargo fire and loss innovation initiativewhich aims to reduce container or cargo contamination of the ocean by preventing cargo fire, loss and damage at sea.
To achieve this, Safetytech Accelerator will identify the opportunities for making a big impact, understand the gaps in technology, and source and pilot new technology.
CSSF members collaborate to advance the continuous improvement of safety culture and performance in the container shipping industry through measurement, reporting and benchmarking, sharing best practices and engaging with key stakeholders to develop durable solutions.
CSSF members are those companies or incorporated organisations that manage fully cellular container vessels.
Aslak Ross, head of Marine Standards at Maersk and first chairman of the CSSF Management Board said: “We are happy to collaborate with Safetytech Accelerator, aiming to provide user-related input to the identification of risks and safety-critical problems and to the development of durable solutions for same.”

Initially, the engagement included presenting to CSSF members, followed by one-to-one member sessions to help shape the initiative, and eventually sharing the results of these engagements with other members.
There are still a few spaces available for shipowner/operators who wish to participate in the initiative.
