Sanmar has delivered two new powerful and highly maneuverable azimuth stern drive tugboats to Svitzer, a long-standing customer. Both will operate in Bahrain.
The tugboats, known as DELIÇAY XVI and DELIÇAY XVII while being built in Turkey, were renamed by their new owners as SVITZER MANAMA and SVITZER AWAL.
Both tugboats are based on the TRAktor-Z 2500SX design, a design exclusive to Sanmar by the Canadian naval architect Robert Allan Ltd. The tugboats have an overall length of 25.3 m, a beam of 12 m, and a maximum draft of approximately 6.55
Each tugboat can provide a minimum bollard pull of 80 tonnes and has a free-running speed of 12.5 knots. Both vessels were equipped with a Fi-Fi 1 system, further enhancing their operational capabilities and safety performance.
The twin Z-drive propeller tugboats were primarily designed for ship handling and towing duties in ports.
Both have the advantages of efficient, high controllability and maneuverability thanks to their modern hull form and appendage configuration, which is the result of significant work on model testing and computer-based computational fluid dynamics optimization during the design process.
Sanmar has a long commercial relationship with Svitzer spanning almost 20 years, and this relationship includes many of the most innovative technologies that have emerged during the continuous development of tugboat design.
These include the world’s first remote-controlled tugboat, “SVITZER HERMOD”, delivered in 2016, and the revolutionary emission-free, fully electric tugboat “SVITZER INGRID”, exclusive to the Sanmar ElectRA series, delivered earlier this year.
Regarding the matter, İpek Gürün, Corporate Strategy Director of Sanmar Shipyards, said: “Svitzer operates on a large scale in 141 ports and 40 terminals across 37 countries with centuries of maritime experience. Therefore, we are very pleased that they have once again chosen Sanmar to provide the modern, technologically advanced, efficient, and environmentally friendly tugboats they need to power their global operations.”
