The State Official Gazette published this Thursday, October 16, the notice that the deadline for appeals against the auction that offered the concession for the construction and operation services of the Santos-Guarujá Immersed Tunnel interconnection system has ended. The auction was held on September 5 last, in São Paulo. With this, the company Mota-Engil Latam Portugal is guaranteed the responsibility for implementing the dry crossing under the channel of the Port of Santos.
The publication paves the way for the signing of the contract and the start of the project’s construction works. The Santos Port Authority (APS) has already offered a room at its headquarters to Mota-Engil and will monitor the tunnel construction through the Permanent Regional Committee for Monitoring Environmental Impacts, which it established as the Port Authority.
“It is a commitment we made and that is taking shape, bringing this 100-year-old dream of the Baixada Santista ever closer,” says the President of APS, Anderson Pomini.
The implementation of the Santos-Guarujá Tunnel is an initiative of the Government of Brazil, through the Santos Port Authority (APS), in partnership with the Government of São Paulo, and is expected to receive approximately R$ 6.8 billion in investments.
The concession will be in the form of a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). Mota-Engil will have the concession for 30 years, with the asset returning to the /APS after this period. The financial contribution from APS will make the road infrastructure project viable, reinforcing the governance of the enterprise.
APS acts as an intervener and articulator for the local community, pre-approving and mitigating regional and operational impacts. On October 9 last, it held the 1st meeting with Mota-Engil and representatives from the city halls of Santos and Guarujá, to establish the commitment to sharing information, monitoring the progress of the work, and the socioeconomic development of the surrounding area.
