Saudi Arabian ports see an 8.60% increase in cargo volume during September

The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) specified that the kingdom’s ports recorded during September 2025 an increase of 8.60% in the total volume of cargo —including general cargo, dry bulk and liquid bulk—, reaching 22,520,494 tons, compared to 20,736,630 tons in the same period of the previous year.

General cargo totaled 1,224,415 tons, dry bulk cargo 5,703,629 tons and liquid bulk cargo 15,592,450 tons.

Maritime traffic also rose by 1.11%, reaching 1,001 vessels, compared to 990 vessels in the same period of the previous year. The number of passengers grew by 58.56%, reaching 71,376, compared to 45,015 the previous year. The number of vehicles decreased by 20.09%, reaching 75,616, compared to 94,630 the previous year. The ports received 285,657 heads of livestock, representing a drop of 17.07% compared to the 344,440 heads of livestock in the same period of the previous year.

The volume of containers handled recorded a decline of 2.75%, reaching 654,865 TEU, compared to 673,368 TEU in the same period of the previous year (2024). Export containers amounted to 237,349 TEU, a decrease of 7.14% compared to the 255,606 TEU of the previous year, while import containers decreased by 3.02%, reaching 250,725 TEU, compared to the 258,521 TEU of the previous year.

On the other hand, transshipment containers recorded an increase of 4.74%, reaching 166,791 TEU, compared to the 159,241 TEU of the previous year.

“Operational excellence contributes to various economic benefits, such as improving trade, boosting industries and sectors related to maritime transport, boosting tourism, maritime activities and associated services, and supporting supply chains. It also contributes to the Kingdom’s food security, in line with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy to consolidate Saudi Arabia’s position as a global logistics hub,” Mawani specified.

It is worth noting that the ports supervised by the Saudi Ports Authority recorded in August 2025 a 9.52% increase in the number of containers handled, reaching 750,634 TEU, compared to 685,414 TEU in the same period of 2024.
