Recently, German propulsion expert SCHOTTEL announced the establishment of a wholly-owned subsidiary in the UK, further expanding its international network. This strategic move not only enhances the company’s market presence in the UK and Ireland but also lays the foundation for building closer cooperation with local customers.
The newly established SCHOTTEL UK will primarily focus on sales for the newbuilding and retrofit markets. The goal is to strengthen on-site customer support by being closer to clients, ensuring the provision of more direct and customized technical services to ship design companies, builders, and owners throughout the entire design and procurement process.
Roland Schwandt, Deputy CEO of SCHOTTEL, stated: “The UK market holds significant growth potential, especially in segments such as offshore vessels, dredgers, ferries, tugs, and naval ships. As the industry accelerates its transition towards climate neutrality, the demand for hybrid and electric propulsion systems, as well as fleet modernization retrofit solutions, is continuously rising. With its portfolio of efficient, sustainable, and high-performance propulsion systems, SCHOTTEL is well-positioned to meet this growing demand and support the high-quality development of the UK maritime industry.”
Sebastian Sachs has been appointed as the Managing Director of SCHOTTEL UK. Since joining SCHOTTEL in 2016, he has held several management positions and has also been serving as the Managing Director of SCHOTTEL Nederland since April 2024. He will continue to hold this position while taking on his new responsibilities.
Sachs will be responsible for business development together with Sales Manager Jordan Soltys. Soltys has a background in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, previously worked extensively in ship brokerage, and joined SCHOTTEL in June 2024. He remains the primary point of contact for customers.
Sachs emphasized: “This strategic initiative aims to get closer to customers, strengthen technical support for newbuilding and retrofit projects, and further tap into the greater potential of this dynamic market. SCHOTTEL UK is not just a commercial foothold; it is a manifestation of our long-term commitment to the UK market. Our goal is to build trustworthy, lasting cooperative relationships within the UK maritime sector and actively participate in shaping its future development.”
SCHOTTEL UK will primarily focus on newbuilding and retrofit business, while after-sales support will continue to be handled by the long-term partner Stone Marine Services, located near Edinburgh.
Soltys concluded: “Through close cooperation with the experienced team at Stone Marine Services, we can ensure that UK customers continue to receive high-quality localized services, spare parts supply, and repair support. The company possesses profound engineering expertise and a strong reputation within the UK maritime sector.
