Scorpio Tankers sells another MR Scorpio Tankers

Monaco-based product tanker giant Scorpio Tankers is offloading another of its MR vessels.

The Emanuele Lauro-led New York-listed firm said it had struck a deal to sell its 2015-built STI Manhattan for $40.8m.

The buyer was not disclosed, but S&P sources suggest the 49,990 dwt ship is going to South Korean owner KSS Line in the second or third quarter of 2024.

Scorpio Tankers said that there should be no debt repayment as a result of this sale, as the unit is currently in the process of being replaced by one of its unencumbered vessels as collateral on the 2023 $1bn loan.

Earlier in March, the company sold two 2013-built MRs STI Larvotto and STI Le Rocher for $36.15m each. Scorpio Tankers logged $214.2m in first-quarter profit and will, following the latest sale, have a fleet of 108 ships.

Also on the MR2 sale side, four years younger Stavanger Pioneer from Norway’s DSD Shipping was picked up by Greek owner Coral Shipping for $48m and renamed Optimus. The South Korean-built vessel was trading in Navig8’s eco MR pool.
