Offshore rig owner Seadrill has revealed in its fleet status report that it won several new deals for its rigs.
The 2013-built drillship West Vela was awarded two new contracts. The first is a one-well contract with Walter Oil and Gas in the US Gulf.
The estimated term is 65 days, with the contract expected to commence in the first quarter of 2026 in direct continuation of the Talos contract.
The rig will start working for Talos this month. The two-well program is set to be completed in March next year.
The West Vela was also awarded a further one-well contract with Talos in the Gulf of Mexico. The estimated term is 60 days, and will begin in the second quarter of 2026, immediately following the work for Walter Oil and Gas.
The two contracts are worth around $28m and $26m, respectively. Both figures exclude managed pressure drilling.
Walter Oil and Gas took another Seadrill rig on hire. Namely, the 2013-built circular hull semisub Sevan Louisiana was awarded a 70-day contract, set to begin this month.
The rig was previously working under a three-well contract with Murphy Oil. The contract started back in August.
The final rig to bag work is the Sonangol Quenguela drillship. It received a contract with TotalEnergies in Angola. The estimated term is 210 days, plus priced options.
The contract started in October, in direct continuation of the previous program with the same company. The French firm has had the drillship under contract since May 2024.
The Sonangol Quenguela is operated by Sonadrill, a 50:50 venture between Seadrill and Sonangol. The company also operates the West Gemini and Sonangol Libongos drillships on bareboat charter.
Seadrill provides management, operational and technical support to the JV and earns fees for these services.
Splash previously announced that Sonadrill won a 284-day deal for the West Gemini with Sonangol Exploração & Produção, as well as a 525-day contract for the Sonangol Libongos from Azule Energy. Both will work offshore Angola.
According to the information provided in the company’s quarterly financial report, Seadrill’s backlog currently stands at approximately $2.5bn.
