South Korean start-up Seadronix Corp, a developer of autonomous navigation technology, will launch a new service at the SMM trade fair in Hamburg, held 6-9 September 2022

The company will exhibit its AI-based navigation monitoring system NAVISS and AI-based berthing monitoring system AVISS at the trade fair.

NAVISS is a navigation assistant for ships in coastal areas and narrow channels which allows the pilot and navigator an increased level of situational awareness by providing a 360° view, surrounding ocean objects recognition and collision alerts in real time on the bridge monitor.

Seadronix is also a member of the Born2Global Centre. The start-up incubator is a South Korean government agency under the Ministry of Science and ICT.

Earlier this year, US$5.8M in funding was raised by SoftBank Ventures Asia, to scale its business.

NAVISS will shortly be installed on national special-purpose ships and the developer said NAVISS 1.0 will be commercialised next year following its launch at SMM. Hyundai Heavy Industries currently uses NAVISS for its intelligent berthing assistant system HiBAS.

Seadronix co-founder and chief executive Byeolteo Park said, “Unveiling NAVISS to global shipbuilders and shipping companies at this renowned exhibition is a big opportunity for us to enter the global market.”

“As a leading AI company with solutions for autonomous navigation in South Korea, Seadronix will present the excellence of its AI technology and innovative products at the exhibition.”

Seadronix will also exhibit AVISS, a berthing assistance and port operation system which uses vision sensors and lidar to help large vessels berth. The AVISS web service provides an all-around-view and the service will be available to berthing operators and port management parties. Seadronix’s AVISS customers include South Korean ports Busan, Incheon, Ulsan and Yeosu, the South Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and SK Incheon Petroleum.

An extensive testbed for AVISS is planned at the Port of Ulsan by the end of this year in co-operation with the Ulsan Port Authority. Seadronix said it plans to roll out an updated version of AVISS in the first half of 2023 with new features including berthing time prediction and average berth occupancy time by ship.
