The Minister of the Economy: “It is important to participate in international agreements”
La Spezia – “The Safe program expresses a change in posture: we have moved from considering investments in Defense a taboo to a frenzy. As the Italian government we have a pragmatic attitude: considering that we want to keep firm the budget commitments made at the international level, we must keep faith with those undertaken for defense capabilities. The facilitated loans of the Safe program must have a perspective of promoting industry, all in the sign of dual use and employment growth”. This was stated by Giancarlo Giorgetti, Minister of the Economy, speaking at Seafuture, the fair of marine technologies related to defense taking place in La Spezia.
“The development prospects in the sector are enormous, if we consider the evolution that ships, both military and civilian, are undergoing. It is important to participate in international agreements. I think of two events that happened in 2025 like the merger of Saipem with Subsea 7 and the sale of the underwater business area from Leonardo to Fincantieri. Scale dimension is needed to compete globally and growth of small players following the successes of large companies,” added Giorgetti.
