Sedna has announced that it has agreed a deal to acquire Flytta, an AI-powered workflow automation platform for trade and supply chains.

The acquisition includes the establishment of a new Sedna office in the Tees Valley in the north of England, and forms part of Sedna’s expanding AI strategy.

Sedna and Flytta previously collaborated on development of a software system for Singapore’s Pavilion Energy, which analysed noon reports against voyage instructions to identify anomalies and potential issues.

Flytta’s Customs Import and Export Automation workflow has already been integrated into Sedna’s applications, with additional AI-powered workflows, including Noon Report Analysis Automation, set to roll out soon.

“Sedna’s mission is to connect the shipping ecosystem by providing intelligent tools that turn data into actionable insights,” said Leigh Steed-Middleton, President of Sedna.

“The acquisition of Flytta accelerates our AI strategy and positions us to deliver tailored, value-added workflows that address the industry’s unique challenges.”

As part of the acquisition, Sedna will welcome Flytta co-founders Alan Appleyard and Owain Brennan as the heads of a newly formed AI Team that will focus on three main areas of development: a Maritime-Specific Large Language Model (LLM) built on top of Sedna’s email platform; Intelligent Tagging to improve the categorisation and retrieval of critical data; and AI-Powered Automations to streamline workflows across maritime operations.
