On November 12, the “Lin Hai Wei Lai” vessel successfully completed the unloading of Thai iron ore at Weifang Port Area, Bohai Bay Port, Shandong Port. This marked the port’s first handling of Thai iron ore, signifying a new breakthrough in the development of foreign trade sources for bulk commodities and demonstrating the practical effectiveness of the “Iron Chain” supply chain service model.

The core of the “Iron Chain” supply chain service is to center on customer needs, promoting the port’s transformation from a “single port operator” to a “comprehensive port service provider.” Currently, the steel industry is facing a market environment of capacity reduction and stricter environmental protection requirements. Steel mills in the traditional hinterlands of Bohai Bay Port, such as Zibo and Zouping, are experiencing structural changes in cargo sources due to production capacity adjustments.

In response, Bohai Bay Port accurately grasps market dynamics and actively responds with its “Iron Chain” supply chain service. It deepens strategic cooperation with existing customers and secures existing cargo sources through measures such as refined customized services tailored to individual enterprises (“one enterprise, one policy”), optimizing loading and unloading processes, and reducing vessel port stay times. Furthermore, in collaboration with the Investment Holding Group and the Logistics Group, it provides customers with cargo insurance and end-to-end logistics services. It has opened and stabilized the sea transport supply channel for foreign trade iron ore in the Zibo area. When customer cargo sources are disrupted, it coordinates with upstream traders to develop alternative sources of the same quality, fostering new business growth points.

By providing end-to-end total logistics solutions, Bohai Bay Port effectively reduces comprehensive logistics costs and enhances service cost-effectiveness. Simultaneously, with the support of port departments such as Customs, Maritime Safety, and Border Inspection, the efficient importation of various non-mainstream iron ores is achieved, creating a favorable business environment for customers.

It is reported that in the next step, Bohai Bay Port will continue to deepen and improve the “Iron Chain” service model, enhance the resilience and competitiveness of the supply chain, seize the initiative in serving the regional economic restructuring and industrial transformation and upgrading, and contribute to the “Three Major Constructions” of Shandong Port and the stability of the regional supply and industrial chains.
