A vessel with a Tanzanian flag is partially submerged south of Kish Island in Iran, according to the semi-official Iranian agency Tasnim, which added that the cause of the incident is under investigation.

The agency cited an Iranian official who stated that the nine crew members were rescued from the ship, which was carrying 2,500 tons of white cement. The incident occurred around 13:30 local time.

The ship was traveling from Ras Al Khaimah, in the United Arab Emirates, to the Port of Shuaiba, in Kuwait, when it began taking on water approximately two miles south of Kish Island, which prompted an emergency declaration.

The vessel is currently in a semi-submerged state, with a pronounced list, Tasnim added.
