Floating wind developer Simply Blue Group has unveiled plans for two multi-GW projects in Sweden

The 2-GW Skidbladner floating wind project is located 100 km southeast of Stockholm. The 2.75-GW Herkules project, comprising two windfarms, Herkules 1 and Herkules 2, is approximately 60 km southeast of the island of Gotland.

Simply Blue Group is working in collaboration with wind energy consultancy Wind Sweden on both projects. In total, Simply Blue Group and Wind Sweden are planning to develop around 5 GW of floating wind in Swedish waters.

Simply Blue director market development Adrian de Andres said, “Floating wind has an important role to play in the Swedish Energy mix. Our project selection has focused on sites that we believe are environmentally friendly and at the same time technically and commercially feasible.

“We believe floating wind cost reductions in the next decade will be significant and that it will be able to compete with other renewable energy sources in the 2030s.”

Wind Sweden chief executive Jeanette Lindeblad said, “Sweden and the rest of Europe urgently need to increase production of renewable energy.

“Our collaboration with Simply Blue Group is a concrete example of how companies from different countries can work together for a more sustainable future.”

The announcement comes weeks after Simply Blue Group signed a memorandum of understanding with Spanish companies Proes Consultores and FF New Energy Venture.

The Offshore Wind Journal Conference will be held 14 June 2022. Details and tickets can be found here
